Chihuahua in a sweater

Big Dogs And Small Dogs

Ever look at a Chihuahua and think, "You and a wolf are basically cousins"? No? Well, now you will. It’s wild, isn’t it? One roams the wilderness, howling at the moon, while the other shivers at the mere thought of a gentle breeze. Same lineage, drastically different vibes.

And that’s us, too. People. Creatures of circumstance. Products of our environments and choices. Our surroundings shape us more than we might realize.

Nature vs. Nurture vs. Spotify

The Chihuahua didn’t wake up one day and think, “You know what? I’m gonna be tiny, fragile, and oddly bossy.” Nope. Humans bred it that way. We took something fierce and free, wrapped it in a blanket, and said, “Stay." Similarly, life has a sneaky way of doing the same to us.

Think about it: how much of who you are comes from where you’ve been? Your family, your culture, your friends, your Spotify playlists. They’re the breeders of your identity, slowly nudging you toward who you’ve become today. Some of it is intentional (like deciding to hit the gym instead of snoozing), but a lot of it just happens while you’re busy scrolling TikTok at 2 a.m.

Can a Chihuahua Be a Wolf Again?

Short answer: probably not. Long answer: kinda, metaphorically speaking.

The thing is, while Chihuahuas might not grow fangs and start taking down elk anytime soon, humans? We’re different. We can change. It’s not easy, sure, but it’s possible. Because unlike Chihuahuas, we have choices—and those choices are powerful.

You don’t like where you’re at? Change your pack. Move to a new city, start a new hobby, ditch the toxic people who make you feel small. You don’t have to stay the couch Chihuahua if you’re dreaming of howling at the moon. Sure, it’ll take effort (and probably some awkward moments), but that’s part of the fun. Growth is messy. Transformation is uncomfortable. But it’s worth it.

The Wolf Within

At our core, we’re all a bit wolf—wild, curious, and longing for freedom. But life throws blankets at us, and before you know it, we’re shivering, forgetting that we were once built for more. The key? Remembering that it’s never too late to rewrite the narrative.

Want to see what you’re capable of? Change your environment. Try something new. Push past the walls you’ve built around yourself. Those walls might feel safe, but they’re just keeping you from the hunt. And let’s be real: the hunt is where all the good stories come from.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a Chihuahua at heart or a wolf waiting to break free, life’s about embracing your inner shape-shifter. Who you are isn’t set in stone; it’s shaped by the choices you make and the environments you allow yourself to live in.

So, ask yourself: Are you content being the lapdog, or is it time to stretch those legs and see what’s beyond the backyard? Because out there, the moon is waiting. And maybe, just maybe, it’s time to howl.
